Knowing that people can be sensitized to almost anything, allergies to
common garden and greenhouse plants is a topic of personal interest.
For instance, I've spent a lot of time working with tomatoes and cucurbits
as a breeder and seed-saver, and I am now sensitive to foliage of both of
those genera.
I have colleagues who work as Pelargonium breeders who are now unable to do
their own pollinations because they have become sensitized to something
that Pelargonium xhortorum produces.
And apparently, there are many people are sensitive to the protein primin
produced by (I think) Primula malacoides. Or is it P obconica?
What other commonly cultivated ornamental or edible genera cause contact
dermatis (or more severe) reactions. Personal experience, please, not
second-hand. (And please, no one needs to include Rhus or Toxicodendron or
their relatives. These are neither cultivated nor edible).
