Does the "moon" part refers to a round, fist-sized, fuzzy seedhead (which
does indeed look like a giant dandelion)? Maybe it's Yellow Goatsbeard
(Tragopogon dubius--no relation to the other Goatsbeard, Aruncus).

This popped up in our quasi-prairie area and it's fun. . . but pretty
lanky, I'm not sure it would be a good garden plant.
