Re: Glaucium flavum
Nan mentions growing Glaucium flavum (the Horned, or Sea Poppy). This
is a wonderful plant native to the seacoasts of Europe. As its native
habitat would indicate, it is particularly suitable for xeric gardens.
And most of us need be concerned with that.
In the poppy family, it produces a voluptuous mound of dissected
INTENSELY silver foliage and carries (usually) yellow single poppies
over a long period in summer.
It is a tender perennial here in Z4, but can be grown as an annual. It
will thereafter reliably self-sow exactly where it was the previous
year. I have not been without it since the first year I grew it.
I have usually combined it with true blues (often the dwarf
ultramarine Delphiniums) which I found to be a striking complement to
the incredibly beautiful foliage of the Horned Poppy.
