Re: Alpine Poppy

The plastic Floraprint tag that came with my Alpine Poppies said
"Papaver alpinum (Burseri) - Dainty flowers are fragrant white, pink or
yellow, all summer. Use for border accents. Plant in full sun 10 inches
(25 cm) apart. Grows to 10 inches. Alps."
To notice the fragrance I would have had to lie on my stomach I think!
The foliage is grayish-green, cut into 2-3 deep lobes which are again
cut into more segments. The foliage is only 5-6 inches high and the
flowers stand well aboove -10 inches as promised. I seemed to have
peach, white and yellow on one plant, but more likely there was more
than one plant in the clump. They are (were) lovely, but this hot humid
weather is doing them in.
I just looked in Thompson and Morgan's catalog; on page 148 they offer
three other alpine poppies - the Alpine Mixed (not illustrated) is
probably it. And of couse they require excellent drainage which mine do
not have.
