I grow 43 different hardy Geraniums in my garden and am hard put to pick one
favorite, but here goes. I love blue flowers so would have to choose a blue
as #1 and that would be Geranium x magnificum. It is tall, 30" or so and
has large beautifully textured leaves. G. himalayense runs a close second.
It is very blue with black anthers and veins, 18" and blooms off and on all
season. For unusual, you can't beat G. 'Ann Folkard' with its chartreuse
leaves and hot magenta/black eyed flowers. One 3 year old plant is weaving
its way through all the roses and Ladies Mantle in one border. For the
rockery, G. renardii with its velvety textured leaves and delicate white
flowers and its hybrid G. renardii 'Phillipe Vapelle'. Same beautiful
leaves and white flowers with lavendery blue streaks. For shade, G. phaeum
'Lily Lovell' 30" with dark purple flowers that bloom off and on all season.
G. tibeticum-orientali, 8", has deeply cut apple green leaves with yellow
variegation and last but not least is G. clarkei ' Victor Reiter' with dark
purpley black leaves. Oh, it is so hard to choose favorites when I love them
