Re: Herb perennials
A garden sage (Salvia officinalis) is now putting on a very spectacular
show of purplish-blue flowers right now--they have never been so large.
And I know why, I bet. I think I read that most herbs prefer hot and
very well-drained growing conditions. I dug up this particular plant
with a basket-ball size root ball of dirt and set to one side of the the
herb garden to give to a friend. She never came to get it and it sat
there all winter and happly grew this spring and is now putting the
other two sages I have (which were safely in the ground) to shame.
Those other two suffered considerable die-back over winter and have very
little bloom. Go figure.
