Well, I grow mine in a bed where it gets about an hour of morning light after
the trees leaf out and it seems very happy in that situation-huge healthy
plants, with masses of blooms this spring.  I think that the more white there
is on the leaves the more light they need-keeping in mind that they don't
really want to be exposed to full sunlight-because of the lessened amount of
chlorophyll.  But that's just a casual observation, I haven't made a study of
such things.
