Whenever I transplant veggies, I take a small paper cup, poke out the
bottom, and fit it down over the top of the transplant. I try to force it
about 1/4 inch down into the soil around the little plant so that cutworms
can't get underneath. I go for about a 3" tall collar most of the time, so
that the plant sticks up well above the ring. If I get tall cups, I cut
two or three rings from a single cup. I've had no problem with cutworms
since I started doing this.
