Rodale's Illustrated Encyclopedia of Perennials has color pictures of gardens
in the design section and beautiful pictures of plants in the encyclopedia
section, plus lots of information on care and cultivation. Garden catalogs
can also be a great source of pictures. White Flower Farm's catalog is
particularly beautiful. When I designed my first perennial bed years ago, I
cut out pictures from old catalogs and moved them around to find combinations
that were pleasing. I have also cut out catalog pictures of plants I grow and
pasted them in my gardening journal. --Janis
