Terri,
I have grown gaura for a few years now...only the flower stem grows tall, not
the leafy base. As each flower dies off, the stem grows a bit by putting out
new flowers. This is a wonderful flower that looks like little butterflies
bouncing over your garden! I think they should be fine in some shade....they
seem pretty hardy to me. The height just makes the butterflies go "higher", it
won't block out other plants.
