Floppy plants

Susan writes that she is having problems with her campanulas flopping
as well. Her idea for an upside down tomato cage is smart. Early
this spring I was at a garden center and noticed that they had two
sizes of tomato cages. When I looked at the small one I thought"What
use would they be?" Now I wish I had bought about a dozen. They
would have been perfect for floppy perennials.
Meanwhile I have come up with the niftiest solution and I think the
idea came to me from someone on this list earlier this spring. The
answer is TWIGS. I have been scrambling all over looking for forked
twigs in a variety of sizes. When shoved into the ground next to the
plant needing support, they are virtually invisible. The fork in the
twig supports the drooping stem very effectively. Thanks to whoever
shared this idea with us earlier.
