Re: Yellow Perennials/Woodies
A stunning large plant for shade that like rhodo conditions is
kiringishoma palmata or k. koreana, which has a bushy habit and nodding
yellow bells in late summer. Mine is about 3 or 4 years old and is
now four feet high and about 3 feet across. It's in pretty full (but
bright) shade, moist well amended soil. Leaves are large and maple
like. Very handsome. If you have a little more sun, some clumps of
lilies are another idea. Lots of yellow types that bloom in June, some
in July, and the later Oriental 'Gold Band' types are white & yellow. Or
some big showy yellow daylilies if you have 4-5 hours of sun. Then
there are the golden-leaved evergreens, which a friend of mine uses as
accents in her small perennial borders -- stunning. They need sun too.
