heh heh heh....we have a canna on display just inside the front door. 
It is in a 3 gallon pot, which has split numerous times due to the
tremendous pressure that the expanding tuber exerts on the pot walls. 
Some of the plastic fibers are actually curled like hairs from the
force.  In the top of the pot, which by the way exhibits a well formed
speciman of a burgundy leaved variety, is a sign that says "Time To
Repot?".

By all means, repot it into as large a container as you can handle. 
Slip the entire thing out of the pot it is in, and just fill in around
it.  You can do that now, since you won't be disturbing the root ball
or  corm.
