coriopsis

Well, today I cut back my coreopsis (there were still quite a few
flowers left but they were fading fast). No, I didn't use my weed
whacker as someone on this list suggested because I would have ended
up whacking my gaillardias as well. I asked myself"If I WERE using a
weed whacker, how short would they be?" and then I cut them back to
that height. Here's my question..when I was cutting them back, some
of them just seemed to break of at the soil level. It was almost as
if the stem was rotted but the flowers on those stems had been fine.
Do you think I have a problem? Has anyone else had this happen?
If anyone remembers me raving about my foxgloves a few weeks ago, the
big news is that they are forming new flowers..not as big and glorious
as before but lovesly, just the same.
