Mine have also faded in the past, but this year they're a beautiful rosy
pink.  Not sure what the difference is, although the most likely
explanation would be all of the extra rain that we've gotten.

I have one Echinacea that came up from seed this year, and it's
ENORMOUS!  It stands at about 5' tall right now with deep rosy
pink blooms.  Almost makes me think of the 'Magnus' cultivar, but
there aren't any around as far as I know...
