I don't know Craig, I haven't done it myself. I have open compost piles in a
fenced in (split rail fence with chicken wire attached) area (although the
fence wouldn't keep out a raccoon--I watched one climb a ladder to the roof
of my house last spring!!! I'm still using the garbage cans with the holes
gnawed in the bottom and keep my birdseed indoors in a galvanized garbage can
(the mice were getting into the plastic one and the switch to galvanized has
reduced the mouse population).
Amazing you haven't had raccoons in your area--I thought they were
everywhere. Even with the dog.
