Valarian officinalis is a nice perennial, a little spready (not too much for
my taste). It gets about 4' tall and will need some staking; but it has a
wonderful vanilla smell, noticeable several feet from the plant. Mine is in
dry semi-shade and doing very well. I use a large tomato cage to support
it, which you can't see once it's growing. The foliage is a nice green, and
dissected if I remember correctly. Find someone who has some and ask them
to share -- it's one of those plants that silly to buy unless you have no
other source.

For mine is a little old fashioned garden where the flowers come
together to praise the Lord and teach all who look upon them to do
likewise.
