No, you didn't jump the gun. I work in the nursery trade and there is no
excuse for sending out plants that are not in the same condition as those
that you would select for yourself from a nursery or garden centre. They may
be slightly smaller to help with packaging but they should be perky and
fresh.  ALWAYS contact the company concerned immediately to register your
complaint, even if you decide to keep the plants. I know it is a hassle
having to complain but if you don't, they will just carry on and more people
will suffer the same disappointment.
From my experience, companies recommended by word of mouth have always come
good, but some 'cold call' orders can be very bad.
The trade needs our good reports, so maybe we should start a list of those
companies that are not up to snuff. They will soon backtrack if they find
they are getting blacklisted on the net.
