Linda,
Clarkia is a wonderful plant, an annual. Now I'm in a 6b, Oregon garden,
but here's my experience.
I tried for years to grow this plant and never succeeded. You supposedly
sow it in cool conditions so you may want to save your seed until next year.
BUT, I finally had success with this seed when I sowed it in March/April in
my south/west facing, sloping bed. It even happily reseeds there. Here
anyway, it loves the hot dry conditions in that bed (remember, hot and dry
are relative terms, we're talking Oregon here). Anyway, it literally didn't
quit blooming nearly all summer.

For mine is a little old fashioned garden where the flowers come
together to praise the Lord and teach all who look upon them to do
likewise.
