Re: delphiniums

Hello Doreen,
I do not know which Delphinium you are growing, but I cut back the the
belladonna hybrids I have here for a second flush of blooms. Cut the
blooming stalk off before they have formed seed pods.
Again, I would need to know which Foxglove you are growing to know how to
handle these. Some are biannual, some perennial and each are handled
differently. You can cut back on either one to get a second flush of bloom
in late summer, but if it is the biannual type you will loose the seeds you
need to have more plants next year... if that is what you want.
Anyone growing the Delphinium X Connecticut Yankee besides myself? Easy to
grow, takes a lot of abuse and just keeps on going. A bush-type to about 3
feet and single blooms. Lots of great foliage and blooms ranging from pale
icy blue to deepest royal purple. Have not seen it in anything but mixed
colors. Sure stands up to our heat and humidity better than the tall
stately English hybrids.
