Doreen, "NE Kansas" = KC suburbs, 1/2 acre, cul-de-sac...don't get any
romantic prairie scenes in mind. They exist, but not in my neighborhood!
You can get beautiful prairies about 2 hrs west (and who knows how many hrs
west of that!! most people fall asleep). My roomate in college was from
Cimarron, KS--that is just east of Dodge City and THERE there is enough
land to toil until you drop!
