Yucky spiderwort

     Devon,

<<and spiderwort (I know, I know, but I love it in May/June before it
     gets yucky)>>

there is a step-by-step explaination of how to deal with this exact
problem in "The Well Tended Perennial Garden". I had the same feeling
two, until I tried the author's technique for spiderwort last year. If
I recall correctly, after blooming, cut down by 2/3. It worked great
for me. I also think she advised to cut by 1/2 before blooming to keep
it from getting too leggy. I did not try that part. What happened
after I cut them is that when I went to look for them a week or two
later, they had just sort of "dissapeared". And this year I have just
as many as last year, maybe more. Very cool.

Anyway, if you are interested, I will pull out the book tonite and
confirm, she also had a nice illustration of how to do this.
