Here's another example:
As I was driving along a busy street one day, I passed the home of an older
couple
whom I've known for years. They have a stockade fence which spans probably
250 feet along the road to buffer the traffic from their house and along this
fence is a dense row of old-fashioned mature lilacs. Noticing a car parked
along the shoulder,
I looked along the fence to see someone systematically snipping furiously,
and she
had removed all of the lovely blooms from a stretch of about 50 feet at that
point, and
in the full light of day and with dozens of witnesses whizzing by each
minute. I called the owner and she shrieked in anger and hastily says it
happened every year then dashed out to save what was left.
Why do people think that anything they can swipe is fair game? I'd be
willing to bet that the woman taking the lilacs would not consider herself
stealing.
