Re: Hollyhocks

I am in zone five and what has worked best for me with hollyhocks is
benign neglect. In the fall when the seed pods are brown and dead, I cut
off the ugly stalk and whap the seed pods against the side of the barn,
or shed where I want them next year and they appear in profusion. Don't
cover them or coddle them at all. Last year I just threw some dead
stalks out by the back sow lot and this year they are blooming all along
that fence. Go figure! Jill (Michigan)
