Compost

Following on from our discussion a few weeks ago, on tv this
morning there was an item about compost. There's a Centre
for Alternative Technology in Wales, and they, together with
the local council who have to dispose of people's rubbish,
have been encouraging local people to compost. As well as
garden rubbish and kitchen scraps, they have been
encouraging people to put in lots of paper and cardboard - I
was quite astonished at the amount. They said it composted
well, as long as it had lots of kitchen scraps (not meat)
with it. The local council has appointed a "compost
district nurse" who goes to people's homes helping them to
compost all this paper etc., answering their queries and
helping with any problems. This sounds like a wonderful job
for anyone like me, who is absolutely mad about compost.
Anyway, I've been ripping up paper and cardboard boxes all
day and putting them on the compost heap.
