Val,

Unless you're already a "serious" collector -- in which case you'd want
specialty nurseries like Oakes -- places like Springhill and Bluestone have
nice selections. A Web search on "Daylilies" will give you dozens of
mail-order sources.

Last year I found 'El Desperado' (gallon-size pot, 4-5 fans) at Wal-Mart for
$3.99 (a friend of mine in the local hemerocallis society was beside herself
because she'd paid $50 for a single fan just two years before!). Don't
automatically discount places like Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Lowe's. They
apparently have no more respect in the Perennial Plant Association than I do
because their perennial selection is usually pretty good for the "average"
gardener, far more than the PPA's recommended 4-5 plants.

Local plant societies/clubs are also a great place to get plants. Gardeners
are generally a friendly lot: even if you miss out on the annual sales, there
will invariably be someone around willing to take you under their wing, into
their garden, and send you home with a sack full of plant divisions. ;-)
