weather

Here in Chicago near the lake, we've had several nights in the
20's following two weeks of warm weather. I'm not worried about the
spring bulbs, since, as Henry Mitchell wrote in one of his wonderful
essays, "They are born to this." But most of the roses were leafing out
when the frost came, so they'll be set back a bit, I expect. More rain
is needed here - hope we're not in for another dry season.

Anyway, we're off to Mexico for 2 weeks, so I'll catch up with you
later! (Don't even get me started about tropical gardens - we stay in
a place that has acres of gardens and it looks like the gardeners
basically poke a stick of something in the ground and it grows.
Phenomenal.)
