Deadheading alstromeria

Hello alstromeria growers -- I've always heard that you deadhead
alstromeria (peruvian lilies) by yanking the spent flower stalks from the
base of the plant rather than cutting them off.  Seems to me, that the
reason for yanking rather than cutting, is that the yanking stimulates the
growth of more flowers.  I can't find any documentation to that fact, can
anyone either confirm my memory or tell me where to find the reference info?
