Yes, fulgida is the right species for 'Goldstrum' 
deamii- has yellow flowers and is a little taller than goldstrum
var. fulgida -- has yellow-gold flowers and blooms later.

A lot of the plants sold as 'goldstrum' are seed raised since its a seed 
strain.  The color is more a golden yellow compared to the others.  I do not 
like the shape of the flowers my self but they do bloom a lot.    it' s  full 
name is Rudbeckia fulgida var. sullivantii 'Goldstrum'


the rudbeckia's are a great group of plants  for sumer color and there are 
some new ones coming onto the market mostly hybrides with in R. hirta
