Re: Artemesia 'Powis Castle'

Wow! Claire, you have no difficulty growing this plant all the way up
there??? Now I think I'm really going crazy. Here in Northern NJ, I've
lost 2 (separate attempts) in a bed that has at least 6 other
Artemesia cultivars that are doing great, including A. lud. 'Valerie
Finnis'. Drainage is excellent ~ it's nearly a scree bed that is
devoted to herbs, a few alpines and other sun-lovers that require good
drainage.

While discussing this dilemma with others, I discovered that most of
them also had difficulty with it. Since we are all in zone 6a or 5b we
figured it wasn't especially cold hardy ~ perhaps especially without
good snow cover, which we hadn't had those years I killed 'em.

Is it possible that there are different Artemesias floating around the
trade, both referred to as 'Powis Castle', one hardier than the other??
It doesn't make sense for anyone to tissue culture these, since they
are so easily cloned.

Any ideas out there? It's only important in that I am somewhat
obsessed with certain genus collections, including Artemesia, and
this is the only *#&$ one I can't get going. Very irritating. <g>

regards,
jaime, baffled over 'Powis Castle' but ready to try again.
