Brush Pile Art

For those in the weaving community, Patrick Dougherty is famous. This
latest piece at Smith is wonderful! Thanks for posting the link, Claire.
I'm passing it along to my friends. Anyone who would like to see more
photos of his work, here is his website: www.stickwork.net/

I've seen 3 of his installations.
In Charleston, S.C. he took over a city park, weaving cyclones
from the ground up through tall trees, ending in 3 cone houses, large
enough to stand in. Children were wild for it.
At Miami University in Oxford, Ohio he zoomed through a library
lobby and
In The Aronoff Theatre here in Cincinnati, he built a grand
structure through that lobby, very nest-like.

As seen in the Smith College photos, he uses students and just about any
one else who will help harvest saplings for his projects. And it takes
lots of help and lots of saplings. Here in Cincinnati he harvested a
tractor trailer full. When it had to be deconstructed, it was moved in
pieces to the Weavers House and remained outside for some months. It
held up surprisingly well. Then various weavers took parts of it to
their homes.

SO, the message is, anyone in the vicinity of Smith that might want a
piece should find out what happens to it after the exhibition is over.
It might be available!
