I would define semi-shade as an area that gets sun light most of the day but
it is diffused light that is not as intense as direct , hot sun. This type
of light can be produced by mountains, buildings and large very trees. I
have many locations like this now- with some work on trimming up the trees
and working around the corners of the house. These beds can grow both my
sun plants and most of my shade plants.
Part shade would be an area that gets some true shade part of the day.
Dappled shade would be shade produced as its filtered thru a large tree or
group of trees.
The terms of course have a somewhat ill defined standard meaning.
