Daffodil Poisoning

Came in from working in the garden yesterday, took a big swallow from a
glass of water sitting on the counter, thought it tasted funny, took
another, realized it was the glass I had cut the daffodils into before
putting them in vases. Uh oh.

Took about 45 minutes for my body to tell me just how much it didn't want
what was in that water...

The lady at the Poison Control center said I was probably OK, which is borne
out by my being here to write this morning. Variables were the length of
time the daffs sat in the water (not long) and that it was the water itself,
rather than eating any part of the plant in particular, the outside of the
bulb. It didn't hurt that I'm generally healthy. I thought I was coughing
more than normal last night, but I was also running a chainsaw for a while
so I can't be sure it was the daffodil water.

15 grams of bulb will kill a dog; no known antidote for the parts that are
toxic, at least according to a preliminary web search last night.

Nasty stuff.
