Hello,
I receive the Greenhouse Grower magazine and this months they had an
article about DIY. Proven Winners will be starring in a new five part
series on the DIY network called "The First Time Gardener" The Proven
Winners brand is a series of mostly annuals which are being marketed
under that particular brand name. The show's host will be Josh
Schneider. Topics will include gardening basics related to soil,
fertilizer and how to plant borders, containers, window boxes and
hanging baskets. The "First Time Gardener" will debut at 10:30 PM EST
appear 10:30 pm PST/3:30 AM EST on March 31.
For the average homeowner I don't see alot of difference in the various
brands. Branding has become popular for alot of horticulture seed and
supply companies. All it has done is caused a proliferation of plant
material, alot of it in my opinion just duplications. One series I do
recommend for areas of humidity and heat are the "Athens Select" series
from the University of Georgia. These are trialed in the south and
withstand heat and humidity. I also liked the lantana "Summer Popsicles"
from Parks which I saw at their flower trials last year.
