Paul,  I agree that Astilbe are very difficult from seed.  Mother Nature on
the other hand does it so well.  I find volunteers seeded around in my shady
rockery every year.  They all are either pale pink or white, but very nice.

 I am happy today--finally got some Astilbe seed to germinate. Have 50
small,
little, tiny plants.  This is my third year trying.  This year it took 14
days for the seeds to germinate in a window with bright indirect light and
day time temps of 50F and night time temps of F 35.


I am thinking that because the seeds are older they put up less of a fight
this year.
