Hi Folks,
Thanks for the posts on aquilegia. Based on your comments I guess I'll
keep mine ID'd with the tag it came with: Aquilegia x hybrida 'Mrs S.
Elliot.' It does seem that it deserves its own name since it has not
changed in 13 years, is always less than a foot high, flower uniformly
maroon. (The original plant is gone and I have nothing but succeeding
generations, of course.) But there's no indication of anyone having a
named aquilegia like it, so we'll leave its name alone. I admit that I
have no other aquilegias (except wild canadensis on the nearby riverbank)
so there's no telling what it might have become with exposure to others and
cross breeding.
I appreciate the input. Also, I guess no one is growing Geranium 'Rozanne'
in Zone 4? I bought mine on sale in Zone 6 last fall and am anxiously
waiting to see how it does this far north.
Regards,
Alyce Elliott
