I have a plant I acquired as Fallopia japonica ' Variegata' . About 4/5 feet
tall and quite attractive. Aware of its possibilities, I have kept a very
wary eye, actually two eyes, on this plant. I don't know why as the
nurseryman (a variegated specialist) told me it was definitely not invasive.
Didn't believe that, but bought it anyway. It now resides in full sun in
nice loamy soil.
Two years at my old place and three years at my new/old place and it has not
been a problem. Last year it produced 3 canes about 2 feet from the mother
plant and they were easily lifted and given to enemies or crazy friends.
So, it seems okay, but we'll continue to keep it under close scrutiny.
