Linda, I have the Cullina book and Harry Phillips basic wildflower probation
book plus Aikens but the one that helps the most would be the one from NARGS
of Tom Clothier's. I have been hunting the address for it but have not
found it yet. When I do I will sent it to you all.
Okay, Dee, rub it in. The snow is almost gone here but the 23 degrees F
tonight will make crepe paper out of the buds of daffodils up. Hope the
rest will get up before the first show in Atlanta next week.
The furry relative of the asarums is Ainsliaea fragrans var. intergrifolia.
It is an odd plant for the shade.

> Fine Gardening magazine August 2001 Issue 80 p.38 had THE best article
titled 'Starting Wildflowers from Seed' written by William Cullina, manager
and propagator at the New England Wild Flower Society. It included great
photos and a chart of 40 different plants' requirements.
>
> The article was SO good that I saved it and kept it handy - thus the
reason I was able to put my hand on the above information! I've used it and
have managed to have real success with more than one plant following his
instructions.
>
> As to deer - I was surprised to read that they've been eating your
hydrangeas. Here, they bypass those and first eat the tops of the blueberry
bush and then head for the Solomon Seal, eating every stalk to within a foot
of the ground. Yes, I know, they may take a dietary detour just because I
mentioned it!
