perennials--hello

Boy, when you guys wake up, you get pretty chatty! It's great to know that you are all still out there...

Paul, thanks for the list of orange flowers; I'll have to check into them and see which ones might work. (I'd love to plant lewisia, but I have found that they don't like the heat and humidity we have in the summer.)

Ceres, I actually have considered agastache; I've seen some in catalogues that look promising.

My problem with this bed is that it's shallow, maybe 2 1/2 feet from the house, and under the eave overhang. It's shaded in the morning and afternoon, but pretty sunny at midday. I have some lilies and gerbera that seem to like it there, but at this point it's pretty much trial and error. I just got some ice plants that I ordered (delosperma 'mesa verde') and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will make a decent ground cover there.

Last weekend at our local flower and garden show, I brought home a rooted cutting of witchhazel. I've always thought I'd like one. Now what do I do with it? Will it get too big for a perennial bed? (Sorry, Chris, I know it's a woody plant...)

Anyway, great to hear from everyone again. We are going to have the first beautiful weekend of the year, and I have some beds to clean out, some plants to cut back, and some to set out, so I'd better get started...
