Unlike a rose, a maple is not a maple is not a maple...
Silver maples are notoriously greedy & rooty, as are some red maples
(the ubiquitous street trees planted by the city fathers). Other more
decorative maples are better behaved, though not as companionable for
underplantings as apple trees & the like. There must be a reference or
two on maples out there...?
