For some reason, everything I've read says to plant heliotrope in full sun.
Like yours, mine would fry in the sun. I now plant them in part shade (like
an east position -- the sun isn't so hot in the morning). They last into
the fall this way. They may be a little slower getting started, but by
mid-summer they bloom non stop til fall for me. I plant a six pack by my
back door, on the other side of the path from the alysum ;-).

For mine is just a little old fashioned garden where the
flowers come together to praise the Lord and teach all
who look upon them to do likewise.
