I second the nomination of Silver Lace Vine - if you want a fence covered in a
season or tow.....but when it starts blooming(July in IL) watch out for the
bees! Just a thought.
Another idea tho not a perennial - is the currently popular purple hyacinth
bean - it grows very fast and is gorgeous by July/August.
