Re: perennials DIGEST V2 #877

Spacing for Argutas(cold hardy)15-20'..Kolomikta 8'.
Yes you do need a male for both of the above..Even Issai does better with one and
there are many reports that I.fruit isnt as good as others available.
One male will pollinate UP TO 8 (not at least)according to authorities on the
subject.Dont know about the male and female in a single hole question.
Good luck,we all need it as this is a much misunderstood vine..Not much (but
improving)good reliable info out there for the back yard grower..I do know of
several in New York who are very successful and have many very large mature vines
producing fruit ..So it is a reality, however climate ,location of vines
soil, feeding etc. all play very important roles to successful fruiting.IOW the
vine is very hardy just as they advertise them to be but acheiving fruited vines
is the rub..And above all patience (mines in its 6th yr.now and still no fruit)as
in the more favorable climates its common for it to take 2-5yrs.So I'll hang in
there for a time longer and see what time brings.
