Hi Betty,
From what I can gather Chioananthus virginicus/American Fringetree, is
indeed a
native of the East side of the country(apparently Virginia)..See if this
description matches what your talking about.
'Profuse lacey mist of fragrant,mop-like flowers on large shrub or small
tree.Flowering in Spring and bright yellow fall color.'
Thanks for stimulating my groggy a.m. brain, into action..Hope this helps.
Connie
/ Thanks, Connie. Sounds just right. I don't remember the fall color, but
I'm sure that's it. Now I wonder if ours actually came from Virginia. I
believe my grandfather planted it; he's been dead since 1935 and anyone
else who would know is also dead, so I'll just have to use my imagination.
But I believe Mother thought it was brought in from the woods somewhere
near town. On the other hand, I've never seen another one and you'd think
since I've lived in KY all my life I would surely have seen one somewhere,
sometime if they are native to our state.
