Hi,
I volunteered at the Philadelphia Flower Show yesterday
and thought it was MUCH better than last years. Certainly gave an air of
springtime! The EPA has a wonderful exhibit with lots of native plants
exhibited in a very relaxed, natural setting. They also handed out a lot
of environmentally friendly info for backyard gardeners. The orchids, of
course, were to die for, as were the yellow clivias (absolutely
humongous). There was an old wooden schoolhouse moved in for the show,
again with native plants. Beautifully done--nice spacing between plants,
not crowded together, just pleasantly co-mingled.
There was a whimsical "hat" class.
Plant materials (leaves, seed pods, etc.) were used to create these wonderful,
whimsical hats. Interesting metal sculptures were scattered throughout the
show and a giant topiary giraffe stood guard over one section of the show.
The minature rooms were once again a big hit.
Flower arrangements sat upon tables, in rooms, in a
cathedral, in niches and overhead. Every color of the rainbow was used to
create either soothing vignets or louder calling ones. All in all, I would
say this show really did have something for everyone, even dinosaurs! I
might even go again.
