That's what I thought the first time I saw a picture of Hyperion. Then I
read the description. All my reference books say that Hyperion in
tall--about 40 inches--and starts blooming in July.
My mystery daylily grows to 20 to 24 inches. It starts blooming about the
second week of August and continues into September. It's a tough little
guy--blooming through light frosts.
The flower is a lemon yellow, has a ruffled edge and a citrus scent. (I
think that describes Hyperion pretty well.)
I'm not a daylily expert but, in my opinion, my mystery variety is rather
slow growing. As I mentioned before, I got it from my sister who had it
for 4 years before she would divide it and give some to me. Actually, if
it weren't for my incessent nagging I might still be waiting. For
comparison, I've noticed that 'Stella de Oro' grows as much in one summer
as this one does in two.
