I have a "confederate jasmine" (sorry, can't remember the Latin name
right now...trachelospermum???) that just survived it's second or third
winter. One year it died down to the roots, but finally recovered by
the end of the summer. This year I spread straw around it, probably
about 6 inches deep. I removed the straw last week, and discovered lots
of healthy green foliage. Even the vines on the trellis survived,
although they are not as green, and I noticed some buds forming. It's
in a fairly protected spot (privacy fence to the south and evergreens to
the west) so that may help as well. But I'll definitely do this again
next winter!
