A few things

I saw a report on the news recently that garlic mustard is causing huge
problems in my part od the country - crowding out natives. The problem
(I was told by my extension service), is that you can't just cut it down
or pull it out and compost it. The plant continues to pour energy into
it's flowers to produce seeds even after pulling and composting. One
has to burn the plant or cook it in the microwave to disable the seeds .
. . . . .holy cow!

On Lady's Mantle reseeding - At my old house, I had the same three
plants for 4 years without ever getting a seedling. I used to cut off
the flower heads for drying - stops the reseeding in its tracks!!

GARDEN LABELS - I got the idea from one of the smart gardener's here to
use venetian blind slats cut into manageable *stakes* and written with a
*Sharpie* They fade from year to year, but I find that if I replace or
re-write in the spring and fall, I can still read them. They do give
the *graveyard look* when the mulch settles, but when I can see them too
well, I know to mulch again!

And lastly, a CALL for HELP. I have two Geum - Mrs. Bradshaw plants
side by side (is it pronounced GEE-UHM or GHEE-um?). One is lovely
foliage - the other is . . umm . . .errr . . .going to seed without
flowering?? I seem to remember that it's too early in my neck of the
woods for this plant to be blooming. But the buds don't open - they
produce seed! The plant with the lovely foliage doesn't show any buds
or stalks for buds yet - so what's happening?
