They are a tender perennial I think (somewhere around zone 8 or 9), but
certainly an annual for most of us. I haven't started them from seed but I
understand they need to be started about mid January to get them to decent
size. I saw them used as the centre piece in hanging baskets last year and
they did quite well that way. Just one plant in the middle of the basket
kept on blooming pretty much all summer. I could see them doing well in half
barrels as well.
