Daffodil color is affected by the season, too. This year we had a
slow-starting spring in Cincinnati, then a few 90-degree days in early April
which advanced the daffodils (and other plants too) much faster than normal,
with not enough rainfall. Colors were paler than usual, pinks were so light
some were almost white, and the orange-cupped daffodils with orange petals
had tan petals instead. I know people who swear by a top dressing of
superphosphate as buds emerge from the plant to pop out the colors.
